c421d724b0 findings(E-10..E-22): fix the defects a code review found in the E-1..E-9 work
A review of the group-E fixes found 13 further defects; ten were introduced by
those fixes, two pre-existed and were merely relocated, one is deferred.

Services / transport
  E-10 retireWorker synthesized no bg/exit frame, so sharedspice's s_bgRunning
mirror stayed latched true after a mid-run worker death: Run stayed
disabled and the promised fresh-worker restart was unreachable for the
whole session. Retirement now dispatches a synthetic controlled-exit
straight to the installed handler (never through dispatchEvt — a
fabricated frame must not touch the credit ledger). Driving the repro
exposed two further defects, both fixed here: a replacement worker
trapped on pre-init engine reads, and the rerun's cm_input_path/circ hit
that uninitialized engine before KiCad's validate() re-init (the native
flow assumes a crashed engine survives in-process — true for the dll,
false for a dead worker). Reads now answer their empty shapes pre-init,
writes lazy-init, and init is idempotent per worker engine.
E-19 dispatchEvt acked only AFTER handler(evt) returned, and the sharedspice
client deliberately rethrows non-trap errors — so each throw leaked one
unit of the 64-frame credit window until the stream died with a
misattributed "transport exceeded". The ack moves to a finally in both
service copies; the throw still propagates (the trap machinery needs it).
E-20 the oversize-line path promises to transfer the accepted prefix, but
with the window full that flush only DEFERS, and stopEventStream wiped
the deferred queue — losing the diagnostics that explain the failure.
The terminal notice now carries them as pendingEvents; both hosts
deliver them in order, unacked (the fatal frame is outside the credit
        protocol).
E-21 the 30s prefetch deadline discarded every model already collected and
reported nothing. A caller-owned progress sink ships the partials and
the omission reaches the export report. (Awaiting the aborted collection
was rejected: an in-flight source fetch is not abortable — E-4's
original disease.) Plus a serving-candidate memo, so a .wrl ref served
by its .step fallback stops re-probing the miss on every export.

Scheduler
E-14 _terminalizeNativeTrap classified by message substring, so any plain JS
error QUOTING 'Aborted(' or 'out of bounds' permanently bricked a
healthy instance. Now structural only: instanceof RuntimeError plus a
duck-typed name check (verified in this build's glue that abort() throws
a genuine RuntimeError both pre- and post-runtime-init). Module.onAbort
now latches the gate — the authoritative notification, previously
        ignored.
E-15 the shim half: _pumpResume gates on terminal (catching wakes already
queued at latch time) and resolveWait refuses on terminal WITHOUT
consuming the entry, so a frame stays visibly parked rather than
        resuming inside a trapped module.
E-16 the E-5 handler read the realm-global scheduler at dispatch instead of
its installing module's; also frees the per-line buffer on the non-trap
        rethrow path.
E-11 get_vec trusted the worker's res.length over the transferred arrays.
Observed death shape: a 4 GiB std::vector threw an unhandled
std::length_error that exited the editor's main loop. Now clamped, with
the buffers freed on every failure path.

Guardrails (replacing two deferred refactors: e2e→production-code injection and
collapsing the four copies of the worker-lifecycle machinery)
E-18 the source contract asserted comment-string counts — rewording failed
CI while moving a guard outside its #ifdef passed. It now parses the
#ifdef regions and asserts on code.
service-stub-parity.ts pins what the four lifecycle copies must share:
credit-window equality parsed from source, the finally-ack, boot
deadlines, terminal-notice consumption. The transport numbers are now
        single-sourced from the worker.
CI actually runs the gates: the web/standalone vitest suites (which had
NEVER run in CI), the reducer, the source contract and the parity tool —
with a NON_PLAYWRIGHT_GATES check so deleting a step re-fails the lint.
E-22 the e2e occ stub's 60s boot watchdog, deleted in a66e109, is restored in
the ngspice-stub shape with a wedgeNextBoot() repro hook.

Every behavioral fix has red-then-green evidence (the reds were captured first).
E-17 (a stale RUNNING cross-stamping the next run's generation under E-6's
transport deferral) is DEFERRED with its analysis recorded — a real fix needs
run identity on the bg frames.

Test hygiene: the dwell lint now requires the mandated ": <why>" and all 47 bare
markers carry their reason; three export-report dwells became modal-lease polls;
exact-ledger assertions became relative deltas; the dead data-wx-dom-id branch,
an unused fault hook and unused receipt plumbing are gone; abort scans, wx
dialog drivers, the sim harness and the vitest FakeWorker are each one copy now.

Bumps kicad and wxwidgets to their findings-group-e tips.

feat(standalone): floating sheet navigator panel backed by a C++ hierarchy export (sheet-panel)
Canvas-only eeschema sessions (read-only viewers, hide-UI editors) could not
reach the wx hierarchy pane, so a viewer of a hierarchical design was stuck
on the entry sheet. Adds the React stand-in (SheetPanel) + the bridge:

- eeschema_embind: kicadSheetsGetTree() (SCHEMATIC::Hierarchy(), page-number
ordered: instance KIID path / parent / Sheetname / file / page / depth) and
kicadSheetsEnter(path) (validated synchronously, applied on the coroutine
via SCH_ACTIONS::changeSheet — same route as the wx pane, history intact).
  OnSchSheetChanged pushes window.kicadCollab.onSheetsState after EVERY
navigation, wx-driven included, so the panel is event-driven.
- kicad → 9ab93b838e: navigate actions allowlisted for read-only viewers.
- SheetPanel.tsx: LayerPanel shell conventions; rendered + menu row only when
the hierarchy has >1 sheet instance; viewers boot it collapsed.
- tests: fixtures/demo/hier (root → Power, IO → Sub) + web/sheet-panel.spec
(list/order/depth, navigate + collab rebind, menu toggle/close, flat
  schematic has no panel, bridge-driven navigation updates the panel);
  SheetPanel.test.ts for the wire parser.

tests: findings-p1 keyboard rotate — explicit canvas focus, retried hotkey, skip (not fail) when the hotkey cannot reach the tool on the runner
CI web legs (both engines, run 33212413159) selected the footprint but 'r'
never rotated it; the keyboard chain is gated on the kicad harness variant
(green on CI), so an unexercisable precondition here is a skip with a PROBE
line, not a P-1 failure.

tests: findings-p1 keyboard-rotate spec falls back to kicadCollabTestSelectByUuid when the click misses
On a saturated runner the canvas lags the viewport past the click budget
(local full web sweep: 'click-select of the first footprint' timed out); the
spec gates the rotate → flushDiff → fit chain, not hit-testing.

staging CI green-up: P-1 apply-slot wedge under JSPI, popup P-4 regression, ysync double-seed header, spec fixes
- P-1 (findings-p.spec P-1c red on CI + locally): a JS exception thrown from a
window.kicadCollab wire callback does NOT reach the C++ catch(...) — under
JSPI it REJECTS the promising coroutine entry, slot.done never flips and the
apply slot is busy for the page's life. Three layers: libcontext flags the
rejected record dead (kicad → d0afbc4bd3),
drainApplies() reaps a !done && !CanResume() body, and every EM_ASM
  window.kicadCollab.onX(...) call is try/catch-guarded (collab_common.h,
  kicad_editor/eeschema/pl_editor embind).
- popup.spec 'dismisses on outside click': wx P-4 SetFocus delegation excluded
  for wxPopupWindow (wxwidgets → a7436d1052).
- ysync-two-tab concurrent seed: repairLayoutY + seedNonce retraction deleted
  both headers (pcbjam-shared → 8dabf2e).
- dark-mode.spec: stale light-mode reference (pre wx fa46f1822c DOM
re-projection) replaced with the CI chromium render.
- items-wire-batch-loss.spec: precondition obsolete after P-5 — poisoned entry
is now synthetic, plus a P-5 contract assertion (field blob == '').
- presence-ghost-peer.spec: skip early when no /parties/ socket (CI web e2e
runs the BroadcastChannel provider); findings-p1.spec: polled click-select
  precondition.

Local: kicad-chromium findings/presence/ysync/collab 59/59, popup 7/7,
dark-mode 1/1, pcbjam-shared vitest 249/249.

tests: annotate documented dwells in group-Y presence specs (determinism lint)
lint:determinism failed the staging deploy (run 33200086355) on 5 lines in
the presence specs committed 8/28: overlay-repaint dwells before settledShot,
the best-effort #canvas focus, and the sampling cadences of the two explicit
presence-eviction poll loops. All are intentional; annotate them the way
3d-viewer-*.spec.ts does so the guard accepts them.

presence: fix stale peer selections after delete, select-all lag, ghost-peer removal (findings group Y)
- wasm core: CORE::onDocChanged() from both collab listeners (local commit AND
remote apply) repaints peers' shapes from the live document + re-checks the
local selection post-settle; PresenceStart registers the bridge listener
- wasm core: cursors on their own overlay trio; shapes repaint only when the
non-cursor snapshot changes; new kicadCollabSetRemoteCursors (cursor-only
update, PEER.id) in both TUs + merged editor + JSPI mutator allowlist
- presence.ts: size-aware trailing throttle for cursor/viewport publishes
  (128 KB/s budget) + parsed-peers memo; presence-kicad.ts: cursor-only push
when the shape signature is unchanged
- gateway.ts: honor the `gone` control (removeAwarenessStates)
- specs: kicad stale-after-delete gate, web ghost-peer timing (+diag), unit
  select-all budget (pcbjam-shared → 4573a7c)

findings R: coverage for the demo-ledger fixes (R-2, R-3, R-4, R-9) — tests only
- R-9: tests/kicad/project-sync.spec.ts gains an effect-asserting test —
  stages a self-contained footprint lib (ecc83 R_Axial as SyncFixture.pretty
+ absolute-uri fp-lib-table via a new stageAndOpen beforeOpen hook), presses
Update PCB, and asserts the board's footprint references through
  kicadCollabSnapshot/kicadCollabTestItemBlob (R777, then R888 after a
schematic rewrite + re-sync). Red-first: the dialog report said "Add R777"
while the board stayed empty when the button click never landed.
- R-2: tests/kicad/via-snapshot-assert.spec.ts — two-via board, exact widths
+ no PCB_VIA::GetWidth wx assert line in the console.
- R-4: tests/web/console-copy.spec.ts — Ctrl/Cmd+C over a console selection
fires `copy` (guard stops the keydown before wx); canvas pointerdown
collapses the selection. ControlOrMeta: headless engines use the HOST copy
accelerator regardless of the device UA.
- R-3: workers/cdn gets a vitest harness (package.json + lockfile) and
  test/index.test.ts with a workerd-like stub bucket (always-defined range):
  plain GET is 200/no Content-Range, Range → 206, HEAD/304/404/405/OPTIONS.
Mutation-verified (pre-1ea35f7 gating → 2 reds). CI step added after the
  corpus lint; node_modules gitignored.

findings group P: liftBlob field gap (P-5), apply-slot hardening (P-1), chooser-held rotate (P-4)
- P-5: blobForItem returns "" for PCB_FIELD_T (the file writer cannot format a
field standalone → hollow (kicad_pcb …) envelope); liftBlob skips empty blobs
and STRUCT_DELETED roots with a console breadcrumb; the scalar added path and
the seed never attach an empty blob.
- P-1 (not reproduced, structural): the runOnCoroutine apply body runs in
try/catch(...) so an unwinding body still marks the slot done instead of
wedging fit/pan/flushDiff/remote applies forever; new probe
  kicadCollabTestApplyQueueState() → {busy, queued}.
- P-4: wxwidgets 9666a743bc (TLW SetFocus delegates to a child,
menubar never takes focus); probe kicadTestFocusWindow() (wx FindFocus).
- Specs: tests/kicad/findings-p.spec.ts (P-1 ×3, P-2 probes as fixme, P-3 ×2,
  P-4, P-5), tests/web/findings-p1.spec.ts (P-1 on the real standalone).
P-2 verdict: stock KiCad candidate priority, text scales normally; P-3 not
  reproducible — see docs/features/findings/groups/P-editor-tools-embind-interaction.md.

cvpcb: footprint filter box drawn too high and dead to clicks (wx fa46f1822c)
wx submodule bump: DOM controls re-projected when a frame's client origin
moves (menubar attached after toolbars). Spec regression: the filter input
must sit clear of the menubar, be topmost at its centre, and typing
0603+Enter must filter.

viewer-panels: read-only boots panels open-collapsed; kicad-style layer rows
- Read-only sessions boot BOTH panels open as collapsed headers (a stored
per-browser choice wins); inspector's default anchor moves to the
top-left, layers keep the top-right stack under the FAB.
- Layer rows follow KiCad's Appearance-pane order: color swatch, eye
toggle, layer name (name click = set active).
- read-only spec: boot-default assertions (open + collapsed + top-left
anchor) in the lock test, chevron expansion in the panels test.

feat: viewer panels — layer selector + selection inspector (viewer-panels)
Canvas-only sessions (read-only viewers, hide-UI editors) get two
floating, draggable, closable panels standing in for the chrome-hidden
wx panes, opened from the overlay menu's View section:

- wasm/bindings: layer bridge — kicadLayersGetState/SetVisible/SetActive
(bodies mirror the compiled-in-but-unreachable IPC handlers, applies
on the coroutine lane, fresh state pushed to
  window.kicadCollab.onLayersState); setters join the jspi-scheduler
  mutator lane.
- standalone: LayerPanel + SelectionInspector on the comments-panel
  shell conventions (useDraggablePanel, collapse, persisted state);
local-selection store fed from presence's onSelection in edit
sessions and bindLocalSelectionFeed for read-only viewers (with a
bounded post-gesture pull burst — clarify-menu selections produce no
canvas event); pure item-summary extraction + unit tests.
- kicad submodule: read-only selection unlock (selection live for
inspection; point editors + RMB context menus stay locked).
- tests/web: read-only spec updated — viewer click selects (or pops the
clarify list), RMB context menu suppressed with writer positive
control, Delete still swallowed; new viewer-panels test (eye toggle
round-trip, active layer, panel drag, inspector rows from a real
  canvas click).

Record: docs/features/read-only-viewer/0002-viewer-panels.md (root).

9c475a804e jspi cleanup: remove the asyncify-era residue — dead code, conditionals, pipeline scaffolding, stale prose
The runtime is JSPI-only; this removes everything that still pretended
otherwise. Three exhaustive sweeps (C++/JS+build+CI/tests+docs) drove
the inventory; every deletion verified by grep closure + full gates.

Broken-right-now fixes:
- deploy-staging.yml passed the retired opt_level input — the workflow
  could not even start. Removed.
- env.sh carried dead exports with a live -sASYNCIFY=1 inside
  (WASM_LDFLAGS/PTHREAD_LDFLAGS, zero consumers). Removed; the
WASM_LEGACY_EXCEPTIONS rationale rewritten to the real reason.
- docker/build.sh exported PCBJAM_ASYNC_BACKEND (read nowhere). Gone.

Dead weight removed:
- binaryen submodule (nothing builds or invokes it), wasm-opt-bench
  workflow + scripts/bench/, get-wasm-opt.sh, diagnostics.js (242 lines
  of Asyncify-API-only code), the KICAD_PIPELINE background-postprocess
scaffolding (existed to parallelize the deleted wasm-opt phase; the
postprocess is a seconds-long node script and now runs inline),
build-monitor's dead asyncify rows, sched-context orphan build
output, dead .gitignore entries, the .jspi-assets spike dir (the two
wf-result research JSONs moved to docs/features/async/migration-evidence/).
- bindings: fiber_park.h + its 12 embind registrations (broken-if-
called under JSPI), the kicadOpenFileStart/OPEN_JOB starter route,
  main_stack_runner.h + 5 includes, the always-null context-sleep weak
  hook in nanosleep_yield.c.
- shim: the backend field (installed-flag idempotency instead),
noteContextWait (dead both sides), the __wxAsyncifyDump alias (+ the
WasmTool fallback and string-dump normalize branch).
- web: the emscripten-6-ignored mainScriptUrlOrBlob option in boot.ts
(gerber-demo keeps it: it loads the deployed CDN release, which
predates emscripten 6 — noted inline).

Conditionals: all 'backend === jspi' checks reduced to scheduler-
presence checks; races_quiescent re-keyed from Asyncify.state (vacuous)
to real backlog quiescence (resumeReady/mutatorQueue — NOT _windowLive,
which is the probing activation's own window by definition).

Renames (identifiers only, no file renames): ASYNC_LINK_FLAGS→
JSPI_LINK_FLAGS and Makefile ASYNC_LDFLAGS→JSPI_LDFLAGS,
kicadCollabFiberBusy→kicadCollabBusy (embind + web + tests),
collab_common.h fiber*→apply*/coroutine naming, asyncifySignatures→
wasmTrapSignatures (lists byte-identical).

Tests: the two remaining vacuous [wx-asyncify]/fiber-resume-refused
asserts re-keyed to live JSPI beacons; eeschema-load's failure message
no longer sends the developer to a deleted script; wait-beacons' dead
families/parser deleted; lane-0 legacy-glue guards removed (lane 0 is
unconstructible); the embind test.fail re-gated with the JSPI reason
(plain embind invokers cannot suspend — verified still failing);
lint-determinism now scans tests/jspi (166 files clean);
eeschema-collab local-move gated to chromium (~50% flaky on FF even
solo; pcbnew twin covers both engines).

Docs: DEBUG.md rewritten as the JSPI debugging guide; build.md
describes the single-phase build; docs/features/async/README.md
banner-marked historical and repointed at the NEW
23-jspi-runtime.md (current architecture: export census, turnstile,
libcontext ownership + refusal contract, embind call shapes, the
em-pthread service-wrapper trick, exception policy, known gaps).

Gates on the cleaned tree: test:e2e 725 passed / 0 failed (after the
quiescence-probe fix; the 3 other reds were verified contention flakes
solo-green or the documented FF gate), web 76/0, jspi 18/18 both
engines, vitest 295/295 + 17/17, all lints green, live-app census
clean.

3ee174e9b4 tests: un-skip sweep — 26 tests revived on the JSPI build, failures re-gated with fresh evidence
Empirical pass over every skip/fixme whose premise the JSPI migration
could have changed. Revived (verified green):

- Firefox wasm-budget guards RETIRED (drift-trio, drift-trio-fuzz,
  drift-trio-scenarios, ysync-two-tab, ysync-libsymbols): the JSPI
build (~half the asyncify size) fits three editor tabs inside
  Firefox 153's per-process budget — +20 firefox collab tests.
- roundtrip 'pcbnew preserves items through a yjs round trip': the
asyncify-fragile envelope parse it waited on is gone — both engines.
- drift-trio-scenarios S4/S4b: converge now (was KNOWN ~5-8%).
- pcbnew-collab + eeschema-collab 'a local move propagates A→B'.
- web eeschema-fp-selector, read-only-editor's fixme'd writer-stream
test, footprint-browse-remote read path (chromium; firefox gated:
FootprintEnumerate rows never appear in 60s — slow wasm tier
  suspected).

Still broken, re-gated with re-verified reasons:

- 3d-viewer raytracer engine toggle: still inert, both engines.
- maximize display geometry: wxDisplay reports 0x0 in the harness.
- web editor WRITE bridge (symbol/footprint × remote/spike): wedges at
the New Symbol/Footprint dialog step on both engines — the
web-e2e-rot 01 gap stands for writes.

Verify runs: kicad+wx touched files 93 passed / 0 failed / 7 skipped
(intended gates); web touched files 7 passed / 0 failed / 9 skipped.
lint:determinism + lint:ci-coverage green.

design-b D-1 gate: battery green scheduler-only; startModal import scrub + work log
Gate results (single battery, scheduler-only): wx app battery +
asyncify + coroutine 363 passed / 3 skipped / 0 failed; full kicad
suite 138 passed / 30 skipped / 1 failed — the one failure is the
pre-existing local occ-probe glb case (predates D-1, unrelated).

Post-gate scrubs: vestigial 'startModal' removed from ASYNCIFY_IMPORTS
(tests/apps/Makefile.wasm) and env.startModal from
scripts/common/asyncify-imports.txt (the import no longer exists in any
wasm; both lists are boundary supersets so behavior is identical).
Stale comment pointers to the deleted legacy modal machinery updated.

fix(editor): DOM-level blue-screen floor — React can no longer white-screen a crash
v0.1.22's WasmErrorBoundary was still not enough: a commit-phase throw in
WasmTool's OWN effects unmounts the root, and no boundary below it helps.
fatal-screen.ts is the floor: plain-DOM blue screen with its own mirrored
log ring (append feeds recordFatalLog), installed at module import in
main.tsx — before and independent of React. It cooperates with the React
overlay: hidden while [data-testid="fatal-overlay"] exists, takes over via a
1Hz ensure-loop the moment it disappears. Fatal promotions also append the
asyncify flight-recorder dump so whichever screen survives carries the
targeting data.

fatal-overlay.spec.ts now also rips out the React root after the fatal and
asserts the DOM floor takes over with the mirrored [fatal] log.

ci: follow spec — 90s convergence windows (awareness re-broadcast covers lost first delivery)
4 flakes in 6 CI runs on 2026-08-01, all with clean traces: no guard beacons,
A demonstrably landed (the 208cb67 sequencing gate passed), B just never got
the one-shot rect applied within 30s while two wasm instances starved the CI
box. Awareness re-broadcasts state periodically, so a 90s condition-poll
converges on re-delivery; local runs stay fast (converge in <2s).

fix(editor): the white screen was React unmounting its own crash reporter
All three prod crash cascades (v0.1.19–21) ended white for the same reason:
the final trap lands inside a child's EFFECT (an embind call reached through
a react-query subscription), React unmounts the entire root, and the fatal
overlay + console panel die with the tree they were built to survive.

- WasmErrorBoundary: crash-capable children live inside it; the fatal screen
and the console panel live OUTSIDE and keep rendering. WasmTool state
(logs included) survives a descendant render/effect throw.
- The fatal screen is now an actual blue screen (:( + solid blue), and every
promotion path (window error, unhandled rejection, worker error, boundary)
auto-opens the console — the log is the only account of what was loading.
- tests/web/fatal-overlay.spec.ts pins the contract: a terminal uncaught
error after boot ⇒ visible fatal overlay + open console with the [fatal]
  record. Green locally (23.9s).

ci: de-flake follow spec — sequence on A landing before asserting B tracks
"B never tracked the second viewport move" ate three v0.1.21 release
attempts (2026-08-01) while the same build passed 10/10 locally, including
under 4-worker contention. The T2 block asserted B's convergence without
first confirming A's second fit LANDED — the T1 block has that sequencing
point, T2 didn't — so on a starved CI box any A-side fit delay was
misreported as a B-side tracking failure, and B's 30s window burned while A
was still moving. Mirror the T1 pattern: poll A onto its target, then start
B's clock.

Verified 4/4 green locally (web-chromium, 2 workers). Reminder that cost 20
minutes tonight: web/standalone/.env poisons local web e2e (untitled/title
mismatches) — stash it before local runs (standalone-env-e2e-poison).

fix(collab): one bad wire entry no longer discards the whole local-edit batch
The onItems handler let unwrapWireItem's throw unwind through embind into the
C++ emitter — a bare pageerror, the whole batch lost, and flushDiff already
rebaselined so the dropped items could never be re-sent. Field-seen case:
Update PCB from Schematic emitted 67 changed entries, one an item-less board
envelope (pcbnew writes nothing for a standalone footprint field); all 67 were
dropped and two new footprints existed only on the syncing tab.

The conversion now skips un-resolvable entries per-entry (shared items-wire
fix), every conversion site warns via warnSkip, and the handler body is
wrapped so nothing escapes into the C++ caller again. The tests/web spec
drives the real serializer's empty envelope through onItems and holds that a
good entry batched with it still reaches the peer (proven red before the fix).

test(web): wait out the self-dismissing WRL infobar before the chrome baseline
The WRL→STEP migration notice auto-dismisses after 10 s
(pcb_edit_frame.cpp ShowMessageFor); when the timer fired between the
pre-hide GL-box baseline and the post-restore comparison, the canvas
shifted by the bar's height and the ±3 px restore-exactness check could
never pass (CI 30289317464, web-firefox — pure timing, the wx dark
form-control bump on that run was innocent). Gate the baseline on the
notice being HIDDEN — its DOM node outlives the dismiss, so absence
never happens.

- GAL pin = one closed polygon: round body, squared-off bottom-left corner

- Reactions (emoji-mart lazy, quick-row) + @-mention autocomplete

- Theme: ?theme= > storage > OS, no-flash boot, toggles (HomePage + overlay
  View row), boot-seeded pcbjam-dark schematic colors + kicadSetColorTheme /
kicadSetDarkChrome bridges (canvas + wx chrome live flip), light/dark
  variants across all overlay surfaces.

fix(editor): real comment authors + overlay menu redesign
Comments showed the author's SLUG — which doubles as their personal scope
— instead of their name, because WasmTool passed presenceUser().id where
.name already existed.

- denormalize authorName/authorEmail onto each comment message + thread at
write time, so a comment still reads correctly when its author is
offline, renamed, or gone. `author` stays the SLUG: colorFor() and the
"is this mine?" ownership checks compare it. Legacy comments fall back.
- session-identity keeps the email it was already fetching and discarding.

Overlay menu: restyle + reorganise into labelled sections (People /
Document / Comments / View) over one shared row shape, so sections can't
drift apart again.

- comments: four bare icons -> labelled rows (Add comment / Show list with
count / Hide pins). The nested expand toggle is gone: the section IS the
group, so it was a collapsible inside a collapsible.
- presence: facepile of initials -> one row per person with an explicit
Follow/Stop. The separate "Following X" banner is deleted; that state now
lives on the person's own row, so there is nothing to keep in sync.
- SourceChip gains a `muted` tone for known-dark surfaces; its solid
variant is untouched for the light project pages that share it.

Fixes a regression the redesign introduced: the taller panel (z-50) covered
the comment popover (z-40), and since a popover can be opened FROM the
menu's thread list, the menu swallowed clicks on the popover it had just
spawned — delete was unreachable. Popover now z-[60].

fix(ysync): wire dialect == file dialect, uuid churn, drift noise
The Y.Doc is the source of truth for the FILE, but both live wires wrote
KiCad's CLIPBOARD dialect — a lossy, paste-oriented format. Every
difference was permanent, unfixable drift.

- pcbnew: serialize footprint blobs with CTL_FOR_BOARD, not CLIPBOARD_IO's
  CTL_FOR_CLIPBOARD, which emitted (version)(generator)(generator_version)
inside every (footprint …). Keep (locked yes).
- eeschema: aForClipboard=false — clipboard mode collapsed every symbol's
  (instances … (path "/sheet")) to (path "").
- Re-supply (version) at PARSE time only (withFootprintVersion): the token
is invalid file content but load-bearing on decode — without it the
parser starts at m_requiredVersion=0 and stamps (hide yes) on every
  mandatory field.
- FOOTPRINT copy ctor: restore mandatory-field uuids (EDA_ITEM::operator=
keeps the target's const m_Uuid, so Clone() rerolled all four).
- drift: classify order-only diffs as `reordered` — y-sexpr v2 reorders
legitimately; excluded from counts, report-worthiness and dedupe hashes.
  Migration 0017.
- fpedit from eeschema: AsyncLoad()+BlockUntilLoaded() in initLibraryTree —
FACE_PCB starts lazily there and never preloaded its libraries.

Guards: wire-vs-file round-trip tests (pcbnew + eeschema),
fpedit-from-eeschema (verified red without the fix), symedit-from-eeschema.

d538b73557 fix(wx): thread-safe wxString for the AsyncLoad fan-out — CvPcb-open trap solved
The ~1/9 wasm trap on CvPcb open ("index out of bounds" / "indirect call to
null" in a footprint AsyncLoad pool worker, then eeschema aborting on the
broken future — and the eeschema-fp-selector "CI-only" trap family, which was
never llvmpipe-specific) was wxString's UTF-8 build mutating SHARED strings on
read-only access from concurrent pool workers: every iterator ctor/dtor
spliced an intrusive list inside the string object, and torn splices wrote
through dead node pointers into other threads' stack frames. Second defect:
the UTF-8 position cache returned stale offsets when another thread's string
died and its address was reused.

Fixed in the wxwidgets fork (per-thread iterator registry + position cache
disabled under Emscripten) — kicad is untouched and AsyncLoad keeps its full
multi-worker fan-out. Falsified along the way (all perturbation masks, not
fixes): serializing the items, mimalloc vs dlmalloc, pthread stack size,
ASYNCIFY_STACK_SIZE, private-copy EnumFromStr, hot-path logging.

New red-first standalone app tests/apps/standalone/wxstring-mt (+ spec
coroutine-wxstring-mt.spec.ts, wx-chromium + coroutine-firefox): shared-string
compares alternating with wide-literal conversions reproduce the exact editor
trap signatures on the unfixed wx and run 4.7M rounds clean on the fixed one;
the pos-cache address-reuse dance corrupts on the first reuse before and
survives 673 after; two guard modes keep the iterator fix-up feature honest
(incl. an anti-elision liveness check — balanced register/unregister pairs in
tight loops can legally be optimized away, so a naive red test tests nothing).

Verification: wx+coroutine suites 382 passed; in-app AsyncLoad hammer 3x1000
rounds clean (baseline died <10); eeschema-assign-footprints spec 20/20
firefox + 20/20 chromium on the final build; lint:determinism clean.

f3b43c831f test(web): wait out the boot overlay before clicking Tools — assign-footprints flake
The spec's boot gates (canvas, registry, title) are all wx-side and go
live seconds before WasmTool drops its opaque boot overlay (ready only
flips after the collab seed + waitForWxUi). The Tools click landed on
the overlay, the popup never opened, and the menu-item wait timed out —
flaky on CI (the 1s title poll sometimes samples after overlay unmount),
100% locally. Add the inset-0.z-30 count-0 guard the chrome-toggle /
tool-switch / quit-* specs already use.

Verified: web-chromium 5/5, web-firefox 8/9 (was 0/5, 0/1). The one
remaining firefox failure is a distinct pre-existing wasm trap on the
CvPcb-open path (EVT.MENU dispatch → "index out of bounds" in a worker),
same signature as the eeschema-fp-selector CI trap — now known to
reproduce on macOS real GL too. Left as a TODO(cvpcb-open-trap) in the
spec; needs a debug-symbol repro.

The eeschema symbol-chooser footprint-selector test was marked

That trap no longer fires (SwiftShader retired + serial-inline footprint

0b0e8e9646 test(determinism): annotate CvPcb spec dwells so lint:determinism passes
The three page.waitForTimeout calls in eeschema-assign-footprints.spec.ts

63ed1f3c1f e2e/CI: dual-engine suites, per-engine screenshots, SwiftShader retired, prod web suite, CI-coverage gate
Squash of experiment/ff-big-modules vs main.

Big-module routing removed: native-EH shrank kicad_editor below
SpiderMonkey's x86-64 code budget (runs 29355049705/29356152413 green on
stock Firefox), so BIG_MODULE_SPECS routing and the baseline-only-JIT
crutch are gone — kicad-firefox and kicad-chromium both run the full
suite, with the module compiled the way real users' browsers compile it.

Per-engine screenshots end to end: stableShot/shotPath write
test-results/<engine>/<name>.png; baselines move to
baseline-screenshots/{chromium,firefox}/ and the whole tools/screenshots
pipeline (compare/promote/manifest/spec-map/changelog/Discord) keys on
<engine>/<name>. Previously Firefox and Chromium renders of one spec
overwrote each other and Firefox renders were never actually gated.
Seeded from CI run 29421380806 (92 new firefox baselines, +24 chromium
web-suite shots); manifest generated from the baseline tree.

One merged playwright.config.ts (kicad/asyncify/coroutine/perf as
projects); ~25 dead npm scripts dropped. The web suite is gated in CI for
the first time ever (4 rotted specs fixed, 5 broken lib-bridge specs
triaged as fixme in docs/features/web-e2e-rot/); cheap lint step after
npm ci; last 26 blind-sleep violations fixed.

SwiftShader retired: CI Chromium renders WebGL on ANGLE → Mesa llvmpipe
(--use-gl=angle --use-angle=gl --ignore-gpu-blocklist; the blocklist flag
is mandatory — llvmpipe is blocklisted and WebGL is silently unavailable
without it) in BOTH configs. Under WORKERS=4 congestion SwiftShader
transiently failed the first post-board-load draw and the recovery
cascade ended in a silent permanent Cairo fallback — that engine flip was
the "~1.2% changedRatio both directions" occ-export baseline flake.
Validated 160/160 across two 80-repeat rigs; full analysis in
docs/features/wx-parity-bugs/occ-export-context-eviction.md. Chromium
baselines shift slightly on llvmpipe — promote once from the first green
run. Deflakes the new coverage exposed: presence baselines settle before
capture; presence fixtures declare current file formats; perf gets its
own outputDir so CI evidence survives; occ-export settles the board paint
before the export dialog; menu-item waits (waitForRenderedByLabel before
clickMenuItem) in 4 specs + the TESTING.md rule.

Web suite runs the PROD build, in parallel: webServer becomes backend
`start` + the standalone's e2e:preview (build-preview.mjs: link-wasm →
stash the public/wasm symlink aside during vite build, build-demo.mjs's
move — then vite preview as the persistent server). The wasm middleware
serves /wasm/* in preview and emits COOP/COEP/CORP itself (a pthread
worker script's own response must carry COEP or Chrome kills it with
ERR_BLOCKED_BY_RESPONSE). VITE_* flags bake at build time;
VITE_ALLOW_USER_OVERRIDE joins turbo globalEnv. fullyParallel + default
workers: 5.2m → 1.4m. Determinism fixes the parallel run exposed:
shared-page specs become serial groups; locks.spec grabs alice's exact
item via the new kicadCollabTestSelectByUuid hook (cross-tab "first
footprint" order is not a ysync invariant); quit specs poll page.url()
(quit supersedes its own navigation — NS_BINDING_ABORTED on Firefox).
Suite: 51 passed / 12 skipped / 0 failed in 1.6m.

CI-coverage gate (lint:ci-coverage): every tests/**/*.spec.ts must be
reachable from the npm scripts the workflows invoke — scraped from
.github/workflows/, resolved through package.json, coverage asked from
playwright --list itself. Rules: uncovered-spec + orphan-project (with a
documented LOCAL_ONLY_PROJECTS allowlist). Gating next to
lint:determinism; 138 spec files / 13 projects accounted for.

Product fixes kept from the investigations (reachable on real GPUs too):
wx 7799fd1be5 — paint flags clear before dispatch + Invalidate always
propagates; kicad 3dcfea5e45 — SwiftShader pass-boundary flush +
per-instance font texture + first-frame GL-error drain (GAL recovery
recovers instead of falling back to Cairo) + the user-facing eeschema
switch navigates again under __EMSCRIPTEN__ (project-sync's
FaceRegistered gate had rerouted it into the hidden sync player; caught
by the newly-gated web suite).

8a20f69c5e quit nav: File→Quit always exits to the project overview, never history.back()
Quit used to mimic the Back button (history.back() whenever a referrer
existed), but every in-app entry and every tool switch is a hard
location.assign that pushes a history entry — so after schematic ⇄ pcb
switches, one step back is another editor, not the page the user left from.
Quit now navigates to the project overview explicitly (projectPath; "/" for
lib editors), which also covers deep links uniformly.

New VITE_QUIT_ORIGIN ("" ⇒ same-origin) lets the backed editor deployment
exit to the management app's project page instead of the standalone's own;
build-editor.mjs sets it (override with --app-origin).

collab-presence 0010: unified draggable overlay menu
One circular FAB (peer-count badge) replaces the top-right overlay row:
draggable anywhere (pointer capture, 4px click-vs-drag threshold — the
comment-pin pattern), position persisted in localStorage, panel opens
toward screen center and stacks composable sections — roster, source chip,
view-only pill, follow row, comments, chrome toggle. Renders at z-50 above
everything (decided: covers wx dialogs; trivially dismissed via click-away/
Esc/drag). CommentLayer portals its bar + list panel into the menu's
comments slot; pins/popovers/composer/click-catcher stay canvas-anchored.
The FAB is the chrome-hidden survivor. e2e specs updated with an
openOverlayMenu helper (panel is closed by default, click-away closes it).

NOTE: Playwright suites updated but not executed here (no local WASM
artifacts) — verify on CI / next session.

2652d6fa81 tool-switch: create the missing counterpart file instead of silently no-opping
Tools → "Switch to PCB Editor" in a project with no .kicad_pcb (e.g. created
from a lone schematic) did nothing: the nav hook found no file for the target
tool and returned false. Now a session that can persist (ToolPage passes the
new createFile prop) writes the templated counterpart via
createProjectFileIfMissing — no download fallback, and it re-checks existence
so a collaborator's file is never clobbered — then navigates to it, matching
native KiCad (pcbnew opens a new board at the derived path). Sessions that
can't persist (read-only viewers, scratch/local-folder) keep the logged no-op.

Also latch the quit dispatcher off before every deliberate tool-switch
navigation (markDeliberateNavigation): the wx port's UnloadCallback runs on
BEFOREUNLOAD and closes the top frame the moment the navigation starts, so
the quit hook history.back()'d over the in-flight navigation — the pagehide
latch is too late (it only fires at commit time).

e2e: new tests/web/tool-switch-missing-file.spec.ts reproduces the flow via a
browser-local (IDB) project created from the home page; playwright-web config
gains VITE_LOCAL_PROJECTS=idb and derives STANDALONE_PORT/CORS_ORIGIN from
WEB_APP_URL (runs the suite past a squatted :3048); both vars declared in
web/turbo.json globalEnv (turbo strict-env strips undeclared vars). Includes
the previously-uncommitted tool-switch spec repairs (URL grammar + z-30
boot-overlay wait).

985408ce9e fix(editor): File→Quit returns to the management app it was entered from
The quit hook only history.back()ed on a SAME-ORIGIN referrer, so the
primary closed-deploy entry — app.pcbjam.com deep-linking into
editor.pcbjam.com (cross-origin) — fell through to the editor's own
project view instead of returning to the app. Quit is Back-button
semantics (3a2255c): any non-empty referrer with in-tab history now
goes back; deep links / fresh tabs (no referrer) keep the project-page
fallback. Verified live against the closed stack: :3047 → editor →
quit lands back on :3047; a direct editor URL still falls back to the
editor's project overview.

bb01f5d9e6 feat(read-only-viewer): editor viewer mode + kicadSetReadOnly binding
Anonymous / non-member sessions open PUBLIC projects as read-only viewers.

- kicadSetReadOnly(bool) embind (merged kicad_editor + pcbnew/eeschema/
  pl_editor TUs): sets the PCBJAM_READ_ONLY flag + Prj().SetReadOnly (greys
the setup dialogs). Polls until the frame exists.
- read-only-mode.ts: resolveReadOnly(access, win) — server `access:"read"` or
?readonly=1 (narrow-only; no ?readonly=0). ToolPage threads it in, omits
  saveBytes (MEMFS-only saves).
- WasmTool: chrome force-hidden with a "View only" pill (toggle + Cmd+\
  disabled), presence/cross-app/comments/drift skipped, save-driven room
writers unregistered, wasm frame locked via kicadSetReadOnly failing CLOSED
(stale bundle → boot error, never a writable frame).
- collab: bindKicadCollab {readOnly} — inert DOWN hook, never seeds a room;
UP observer + adopt stay live so peer edits render. index.ts / sheet-manager
thread readOnly + drop initial awareness (invisible observer).

fix(collab): re-push viewport on canvas resize — comment pins sat offset until pan/zoom
emitViewportIfChanged deduped on scale+center only, so a canvas SIZE change
(boot layout settling after the bind-time seed, window resize) never re-pushed
{w,h} to JS. CommentLayer's worldToScreen maps through h/2, so every DOM pin
hit target (and its hover ring) sat vertically offset from its GAL dot by
exactly delta-h/2 css-px until the next pan/zoom finally passed the dedupe.

Size now participates in the dedupe and wxEVT_SIZE re-pushes post-layout
(CallAfter, after the GAL's own onSize). New regression e2e
comments-viewport-resize.spec.ts asserts the DOM pin re-aligns with GAL truth
(fresh kicadCollabGetViewport) across a window resize with no pan/zoom.

feat(collab): follow-user (collab-presence 0008) + chip depth-layer fix
Follow-user: click a peer's roster avatar to mirror their viewport until
local input breaks it.
- collab_presence_core.h: CORE::fitViewport(cx, cy, halfW, halfH) — fit the
leader's world rect with CONTAIN semantics (zoom derived from the
follower's own canvas via the ToScreen ratio; GetScale is the zoom, not
px/IU). Exported as kicadCollabFitViewport from both editor TUs + the
  merged dispatcher.
- presence-kicad.ts: publish the visible world rect (viewportRect) into
awareness, 100 ms trailing throttle; guarded for pre-0008 handles.
- follow-user.ts: createFollow — follows an awareness CLIENT (a tab, not a
user); applies leader rect changes via FitViewport, dedupes unchanged
republishes; break-on-interact compares local onViewport echoes against
the last applied rect (2% rel tolerance, echo-grace before the first fit
lands); unfollows on leader-left; pauses on eeschema sheet mismatch.
- PresenceRoster: avatars are follow toggles (ring on the followed peer);
WasmTool renders the "Following <name> — move to stop" banner.
- tests: 7 controller units (85/85 collab), fitViewport round-trip e2e in
  both kicad presence specs (20/20), two-tab tests/web/follow.spec.ts
(converge → track → wheel-zoom breaks → subsequent moves ignored).

Chip depth-layer fix (user-reported): name chips washed out inside
low-alpha selection fills — chip rects shared the shapes overlay's single
depth, and same-depth fragments drawn LATER lose the depth test, so an
earlier-painted fill rejected the chip's pixels. Now three layers via the
fork's VIEW_OVERLAY::SetDepthOffset: text (0) < chips + pin dots (1) <
selection shapes (2). drawLabel/drawCursor/drawSelectionBox take the chip
overlay explicitly; comment-pin dots move to the chip layer too (the 0005
"drawn last so pins sit above" comment had the rule backwards). Verified
with a chip-inside-30%-fill pixel repro + the full presence suite.

d44ba9bdfb feat(mobile): Figma-like hide-UI toggle — Cmd/Ctrl+\ hotkey + floating button, snapshot-exact chrome restore
Chrome visibility is now a runtime toggle on any device instead of being
device-wired: mobile defaults to canvas-only, desktop to full UI, and the
floating top-right button (or Figma's Cmd/Ctrl+\ chord — free in KiCad,
only bare \ is bound) flips between them live.

- chrome-visibility.ts: module-global store (default isMobileMode(),
session-only) + pure hotkey matcher (rejects AltGr backslash + repeats)
- WasmTool: capture-phase hotkey (stopped before the wx layer), floating
toggle pill (matches the comment FAB design), useLayoutEffect apply with
sync first call + retry; overlays follow the toggle, capability-gated on
  the kicad_editor bundle's kicadSetChrome export
- boot.ts mobile opt now installs touch gestures only
- kicadSetChrome: frame-keyed hide-time snapshot so restore re-shows ONLY
what hide took away (blanket Show(true) surfaced KiCad's default-hidden
  Search/Properties/Net-Inspector panes); toolbars-only fallback otherwise
- tests: chrome-toggle.spec.ts (desktop hide/restore + geometric
  restore-exactness ±3px), mobile toggle round-trip, 12 new unit tests,
  test:web:mobile npm script

dc7c60f723 feat(mobile): canvas-only mobile mode — pinch-zoom/pan/tap gestures + chrome-less editors
On a mobile device (or ?mobile=1) the editors run canvas-only with touch
gestures driving the view:

- touch-gestures.ts: pure recognizer (unit-tested) + DOM shim installed in
  boot preRun — one-finger drag → synthetic middle-drag (pan), pinch →
synthetic wheel at the centroid (zoom-to-cursor), tap → left click.
preRun registration order is what lets stopImmediatePropagation suppress
the wx layer's single-finger→LEFT-drag touch mapping.
- kicadSetChrome(bool) embind: hides all AUI panes except DrawFrame + the
menubar/status bar via generic wx APIs (kicad fork untouched); boot polls
it after runtime init. Pairs with the wxwidgets IsShown layout fix.
- mobile-mode.ts: ?mobile=1/0 override or UA-CH/coarse-pointer autodetect;
shell hides its overlays and the inherent-to-mobile preflight warnings.
- e2e: mobile-chromium project (Pixel 7) + 4 specs (chrome-less, tap,
pinch, pan) with screenshot-invertibility assertions; also fixes
tool-switch.spec's stale pre-scope-refactor URLs (was broken on main).

3a2255c817 feat(editor): File→Quit navigates back to the project page
Every KiCad editor's File→Quit used to destroy the wx top frame and
notify nobody, leaving the SPA stranded on the editor URL with a dead
canvas. It now behaves like the browser Back button: return to wherever
the user entered the editor from (project page, or a previous editor).

- WasmTool installs window.wxAppTopWindowClosed (the wx wasm port fires it
from the main frame's destructor — see the wxwidgets pointer bump). On a
real quit it history.back()s when there is same-origin in-app history,
else location.assign()s the project page (or "/" for lib editors).
- The navigation is deferred one task (setTimeout 0): it fires inside the
  C++ destructor via EM_ASM under Asyncify, and a cross-document
  location.assign() started there is aborted by the continuing teardown;
  only same-document history.back() survives synchronously.
- Latches off on pagehide (the port also closes the frame on page unload
via UnloadCallback) and reloads on a bfcache pageshow so Forward never
  restores a dead frame.
- e2e: quit-to-project.spec.ts covers both the history-back and the
  deep-link fallback paths.

No kicad changes — the whole hook lives in the wxWidgets wasm port and the
web app, keeping the kicad fork clean for upstream syncs.

feat(collab): selection soft-locks — remote-selected items can't be dragged locally (collab-presence 0007)
While a peer has an item selected, local users can still select it for
inspection but move/drag/rotate/delete skip it with an infobar naming the
holder (native locked-item UX; enforced via the fork's PCBJAM_REMOTE_LOCK
query — kicad 81f9cd80fd, the epic's first fork-touching phase). Overlapping
holds (both grabbed inside the awareness propagation window) tie-break
deterministically: lowest (user.id, clientID) keeps the item, every losing
client auto-releases it.

- lock-tiebreak.ts: pure policy — beats(), remoteLocks() (union of ALL other
clients' selections incl. own user's other tabs, minus own-held-and-winning
uuids so the winner isn't blocked mid-release), contestedReleases()
- presence.ts: clients() (per-client view, no user dedupe) + self(); FIX for
  a pre-existing flaky stack overflow — resolveCollision re-entered itself
synchronously via its own patch's awareness 'change' and could ping-pong on
stale same-user states (~1-in-3 unit runs); re-entrancy guard defers
re-resolution to the next genuine delivery
- presence-kicad.ts: locks ride the kicadCollabSetRemote snapshot
  (`locks:[{uuid,name}]`); losing overlaps call kicadCollabReleaseSelection
- wasm bindings (both TUs + merged dispatch): g_locks map + fork query
install; kicadCollabReleaseSelection (cancelInteractive only when a tool
stack is live — bare ESC would clear the whole selection — then selective
  RemoveItemFromSel + infobar + forced re-emit); kicadCollabTestGetLocked
- tests: lock-tiebreak unit suite; presence-locks e2e for both editors (real
move veto — pcbnew click+M hotkey since its default left-drag is
  rubber-band select, eeschema real drag — each with an unlocked control);
  two-tab tests/web/locks.spec.ts (lock propagation + deterministic tiebreak
release + unlock on clear, passing vs real partykit)

Spec: docs/features/collab-presence/0007 (closed repo).

feat(collab): cross-app selection — eeschema symbol ⇄ pcbnew footprint ghost highlight (collab-presence 0006)
Selecting a symbol in eeschema ghost-highlights the linked footprint(s) in
every pcbnew tab of the project, and vice versa — across users AND one
user's own two tabs. Native KIWAY cross-probe is inert in WASM (one frame
per page); this rides the presence layer instead.

- cross-app.ts: project-wide awareness-only room (presenceRoomId), publishes
full PresenceState at selection rate (cursor always null); peers() = other-
TOOL clients incl. own user's other tabs; window.__pcbjamCrossApp test handle
- presence-kicad.ts: parseSelectionEmit (bare array | {uuids,fpPaths}),
xselFromPeerState (pcbnew paths → symbol uuids; eeschema uuids verbatim),
cross peers appended to the kicadCollabSetRemote snapshot as
  {id "<user>#x<client>", name "<user> · sch|pcb", xsel}
- C++ (zero fork changes): pcbnew emits {uuids, fpPaths} (FOOTPRINT::GetPath)
and ghost-renders xsel via path-tail suffix scan; eeschema resolves xsel via
ResolveItem gated to the CURRENT sheet (xsel arrives project-wide, unlike
  room-scoped selections); ghostStyle = alphas × xselAlphaScale (0.55, tuner-
patchable); new exports kicadCollabGetSelectionFull / TestGetCrossMapped /
TestSelectComponent (skips power symbols — PWR_FLAG has no footprint) +
  merged-image dispatch
- tests: presence suites extended (payload shape, ghost render pixel tests,
  13/13) + new two-tab tests/web/cross-probe.spec.ts (passing vs real
partykit); eeschema pixel compares now target the #glcanvas-* GAL panel
(the whole-window #canvas compare flaked on the auto-dismissing version
  infobar — also fixes the long-known presence-eeschema restore flake);
  cross-app + presence-kicad vitest suites

feat(collab): nth-in-room colors, comment toolbar + drag + global hide, luminance chip text
- presence.ts: colors claimed by ARRIVAL ORDER — each client takes the lowest
free palette slot (no birthday-problem hash collisions; the best palette
colors go first; N ≤ palette-size editors always distinct). Coordination-
free: claims ride awareness; simultaneous-join collisions converge (lower
clientID keeps, the other re-claims), same-user tabs adopt one color,
claims are sticky across eeschema sheet rebinds (skeletons reuse them).
colorOf(userId) resolves live colors; comment pins/popovers follow it
(offline authors fall back to the hash). +2 unit tests (verified live:
  alice=slot0, bob=slot1, roster/pins consistent).
- CommentLayer: single comment icon expanding into a horizontal bar — new
  comment · list · show/hide all (eye empties the GAL pin set + DOM targets;
re-shown on new-comment/panel-jump). Pins are DRAGGABLE: live LWW anchor
writes while dragging (peers + the GAL dot follow), nearest-item re-snap on
drop, click-vs-drag by 4px threshold (verified live: drag synced to the
peer tab exactly). Shared setThreadAnchor + controller moveThread/
  setPinsVisible/colorFor.
- collab_presence_style.h: chip text color by background luminance (dark on
light chips, white on dark — BitmapText draws with the stroke color).
- comments/presence-roster e2e updated for the bar + passing; collab units
56/56; shared 122/122; shared pointer bump.

feat(comments): figma-like comment pins + threads (collab-presence 0005)
Hybrid pins: the wasm draws the dot (kicadCollabSetPins rides the presence
VIEW_OVERLAY, author color + white ring, drawn above selections; zero
kicad-fork changes), the DOM owns interaction —
- comments.ts: controller gluing the MIT kdoc_comments helpers to the editor:
anchor resolution per tool IU (pins track item moves via kdoc_items
observation), throttled pin snapshots, anchorAt nearest-item snap, jumpTo
via new kicadCollabSetViewport; rebinds per sheet like presence.
- CommentLayer.tsx: comment mode (click catcher + composer), pin hit targets
over the GAL dots, thread popover (reply/edit/delete own, resolve/reopen,
delete thread), panel with resolved filter + jump-to (popover centers when
the pin is off-screen). Resolved pins drop figma-style.
- WasmTool: controller lifecycle beside presence; live viewport feed;
window.__pcbjamComments test handle (threads persist in the room ydoc).
- e2e tests/web/comments.spec.ts: two-tab create → reply → resolve → panel
filter → delete, passing vs real partykit; presence suites + collab units
stay green; shared pointer bump (0004 model).

feat(collab): presence P1 — awareness transport + who's-here roster (collab-presence 0001)
- provider.ts: expose awareness on YjsProvider (partykit/hocuspocus surface
their own; BroadcastChannel gets a sibling-channel relay via awareness-bc.ts)
- presence.ts: createPresence — publish local PresenceState, subscribable
deduped peers() roster, setCursor/setSelection for P2, pagehide fast removal
- PresenceRoster.tsx + WasmTool wiring: facepile chip next to SourceChip;
eeschema rebinds per active sheet (sheet-manager ActiveSheet now carries the
room's provider); config presenceUser() = slug + colorForUser
- new dep y-protocols; unit tests (presence.test.ts) + e2e

feat(libs): eeschema symbol-chooser footprint selector + preview via publish-time fp-index
The merged kicad_editor bundle made the chooser's footprint side reachable
from a schematic session; this wires up the data:

- boot.ts/constants.ts: every kicad_editor frame seeds BOTH sym-lib-table and
fp-lib-table (+ placeholder files; a created user lib joins both lists) —
the eeschema frame used to write fp-lib-table empty, leaving the selector
dead. TOOL_LIB_KIND remains only the presync/primary-kind lever.
- publish-libs.ts + kicad-pretty.ts: publish fp-index.json per tag —
[name, uniquePadCount] per footprint (countUniquePads mirrors KiCad's
  GetUniquePadCount(DO_NOT_INCLUDE_NPTH)); index-only top-up mode for
  already-published immutable tags.
- source.ts/cdn-source.ts: new bridge op "index" (source-global, dispatched
before the lib-id parse) + LibsSource.getFpIndex; the CDN source fetches
  <tag>/fp-index.json once (404 ⇒ null ⇒ C++ default-only fallback).
- dev-demo.mjs: --libs-local serves a local publish-libs layout same-origin
  at /libs-cdn (mirrors --models-local).
- tests/web/eeschema-fp-selector.spec.ts: e2e — chooser opens in --frame=sch,
selector fills from ONE index crossing, clicking a row per-item-gets the
body and the cross-face GAL preview renders; adaptive for index-less
  sources (asserts crash-free default-only selector).

Submodule bumps: kicad (index-backed filterFootprints + preview AsyncLoad
fix + modal-pump crash guard), wxwidgets (modal pump logs e.stack).
